Fall Tip #1: Mind Your Mornings
After sleeping in all summer, it can be difficult to get everyone back on schedule in the morning. Use your Control4 smart home to get your kids up quickly and on time without the hassle. Use your multi-room audio system to play wake-up songs at 6 a.m. to get the house moving. If you have a toddler, choose a Disney playlist, and if you have a teenager pick his or her favorite album. Each room can be customized so waking up is fun, not a chore. As the music comes on, program the shades to rise to let in the morning sun too. Add in house lights, video, and HVAC to create the right environment for starting your day right. If the kids aren’t ready to go and downstairs by 7:30, hit a “hurry” button on your phone to make their bedroom lights flash to alert them that’s it’s almost time to leave for school. If you have an intercom system as well, you can also call in upstairs and tell them they have five minutes to move it or else!
Fall Tip #2: Plan After School Activities
Back to school means it’s back to the daily grind with after school activities and homework. To get your family into a daily routine, make an after-school scene that helps everyone stick to the plan and meet daily goals. As soon as you walk in the door, the security system disarms, the lights turn on, but the TV stays off! It’s homework time. Create parental settings in your home theater system so they can’t turn on their shows until they’re done with their assignments. As soon as they’re completed, you can turn on the fun right from your phone. When it’s time for dinner, hit “dinnertime” on your wall keypad, and the lights will flash in the house to let everyone know it’s family time around the table. Whether you are playing with the kids, helping them focus on their school work or getting them ready for bed, your smart home can help keep everyone on schedule.
Fall Tip #3: End the Day Right
Ending your day the right way is just as important as starting it well. If your bedtime is 10 p.m., dim the house lights down 50% at 9 to wind everyone down. Then at 9:30, turn off the TV, music and downstairs kitchen and living room lights so everyone retires to their individual rooms. That way, your family can relax and prepare for the next day by reviewing schedules or reading a book. Then right at 10, hit the “bedtime” button on the remote control at your bedside, or on your mobile device, so that all the house lights turn off except for a couple outside, the security system turns on, the doors all lock, and the thermostat raises a tad so that your family is comfortable for a full night’s rest.
